Snowfall of 31 December 2008.

After some cold days, about -1°C to -5°C during several days, an oceanic disturbance enters above Western Europa. An anticyclone on the East of Europe seems to slow down an occluded front which winds above Swiss on 31st December 2008, and bringing important snowfall, about 20cm between 6 h and 18 h.
Of habits this type of snowfall does not last and often give temperature warming. But it is not the case. the temperature stays at 0°C all the day, from the lake until 1000m of altitude. At night which follows, it is re-freezing with about -2°C down to -6°C (and until -12°C by thermal reversal) in the early hours of 4st January. In fact hot air on ground will not happen, because the anticylone regains the upper hand, bringing continental cold air. Snowfalls seem due to hot and humid air in altitude crossing the Swisstzerland on December 31st. The weather chart analysis is the following:
